Forums with Main Page - SEO & Visitors Friendly

Why having a simple html main page for your forum instead of the forum page is good?

Ok, what I meant for a simple static html main page is the page which is on your top level domain and with a link to your forum. For example, your forum is in a subfolder say /forums and so the html main page will be at the mainpage with a big, very visible link to your subfolder /forums

The main page should have a few images (small in size and related to your forum) to make it look presentable, the fonts and colors should also be very close to your forum and the main links (make them big and visible) should be to your forum along with a link to a gallery/online store/directory/detail page. They should not have lots of scripts (unless necessary) and other nonsense. The main keyword here is simple.

Why you ask? Read below then.

Loads fast

Everyone hates waiting for a slow page to load, but when your html page is light and fast and not loaded with unnecessary scripts and images, you will not face this problem here. And for the first time visitor, this is important. Even repeat visitors hate the waiting time. Now with so many websites and forums out there, how many of us click on the stop button on our browsers when the page doesnt show fast and we move on to the next site or forum?

And not forgetting, these are very static pages, which doesnt take up a lot of server resources, a good point if you want your pages to load up fast.

Explains your visitors what your forum is about

Have you done a Search about something and was directed to a forum, but you have no idea what the forum is about? A lot of forums dont give a description about the site, only the title. Having a main page to tell your visitors what your forum is about makes your forum less confusing and thus more appealing and interesting to viewers.

Of course, it is a bit troublesome for the visitor to have to click one more time to access your forums. But for the repeat visitors, they can just bookmark your forum page or just use the browsers URL history to access your forum directly.

Easy to edit and modify

Having a single static html page, you can edit or add meta tags as you wish. Meta descriptions or keywords can added or editing easily without going a deep subdirectory to Search for the template of your forum. Adding links and advertisements is also much easier, since basically your main page is html. Want to add alt for your main page images or bold your keywords or title or even change your images titles for SEO? Heck, you want to add h1 and h2 tags? No problem. These are all easily done with a text editor and the file you need to edit is index.htm and the location is at the html root of your web server.

How about when you need to add a link at your footer to the directory which requires a reciprocal back-link? Or deleting off the link that has been banned by Google?

Having a html page also allows you to design your page as you see fit. Although it depends on your html coding & graphics skills, you are not constrained by your forums templates and theme design and you can organize it in such a way that you can easily edit or modify the code.

And yes, html is very Search Engine friendly. Just dont use frames, use CSS.

And please remember that your forum script itself must be optimized for Search Engines as well.

Allows you to have other content/sections

A forum can never beat a normal website for content, so adding something else can help generate interest for you forum, like a gallery or an online store or a blog or even an article directory. I feel that a forum alone can never generate enough buzz to make members keep coming back or even get members to signup. Even forum scripts nowadays have mods which add in a portal or a gallery or a directory because of this sad fact. But they too suffer from the same problem, difficult to edit and they are not Search Engine Friendly as html.

Giving your first time visitor an option to choose which section of your site to go helps make them think of what is in that link other than your forum. It will make your forum more appealing. However, you should make sure that the content is relevant to your forum or it might just drive traffic away from your forum.

How internet Marketing And Sports Made Me A Success

Man, I could visualize myself doing the same thing. I thought to myself "If only I could do that"! Later that year I decided to become a softball player.

Unfortunately it was alot harder than it looked. I joined a team that was near the bottom of the rankings, no one else wanted me. Why? Because I was a downright bad player. And I mean badly as in no good.

In fact I stunk! The only thing I had going for me was this fierce burning desire to succeed as a good softball player. The fire was inside me and I wanted to be "GOOD!" Now what does this have to do with internet Marketing?

Just give me some time here and you will see where this is going. At 22 years of age I could not run, throw or hit. Nor did I have any special athletic abilities, at 5'7" and about 130lbs. I was not much of a softball player.

The team I joined used me very sparingly and rightly so. My butt was on the bench so often I was seriously considering buying pillows for my rear end.

The following year before the new softball season started. I purchased a book called "How to play slo-pitch-softball". This book was instrumental in my education and desire to become a good softball player. It had techniques on holding the bat, fielding, throwing, and running the bases. I read it thoroughly and followed its advice. That season I became a better player. I Spent much less time on the bench.

The next year I decided to become even better. I purchased a book called "Hitting a softball for distance and power" It thought me what exercises I needed for upper body strength, what type of bat to use for quicker more powerful swings. Clearly the following year I no longer sat the bench. I also purchased a book called "Leg exercises for speed". It took a few years but I became faster, quicker and stronger.

I was now in my late twenties and at 160lbs. a very good slo-pitch softball player. I had numerous teams asking me to play for them. Wow what a turnaround! It took me about 6-8 years to become a successful softball player. Now again you say what the heck does this have to do with internet affiliate marketing?

Actually plenty. I am now in my mid fifties. At first I stunk at internet Marketing just like I did at softball but I slowly began to get better. I read till my eyes burned and I still do. My website guzmansgreenhouse.com is now listed at the top for numerous keywords at google, yahoo and other top search engines. Am I getting rich overnight? Absolutely not. I am making an extra income.

How to Get Your E-mail Marketing Past Spam Filters and Firewalls and Into Your Customer's Inbox

E-mail marketing is a tremendously valuable tool for small and large companies that do business online. However, some companies find that there are a number of challenges that get in the way of their e-mail marketing campaigns.

In part, this is because many of your customers and prospects take advantage of Spam filters that have been built into their e-mail software. These Spam filters scan each message received for keywords that are often associated with scams or unsolicited marketing, and often direct any mail deemed questionable into a Spam, bulk or junk folder rather than the recipient's inbox.

Just as many e-mail programs have Spam filters, many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) block some e-mail messages. An ISP-content filter may be set to block all mail that is addressed to more than a certain number of recipients. Similarly, ISP blocks can occur for messages that contain images, excessive links, as well as words and phrases that are frequently used by spammers.

If too many of your company's e-mails are identified as Spam or deemed to be unsolicited, you may find your IP address the address from which you send e-mail on a blacklist. When your IP address is blacklisted, many of the e-mail marketing messages that you send will be returned to you undelivered.

Similarly, some ISPs have Greylists. Greylisting happens based on the way that the server sending the e-mail behaves rather than the content of the messages themselves. Content filters, Spam filters, ISP blocks, Blacklists, Greylists, and Whitelists: with all of these obstacles standing between your e-mails and your customers and prospects, it is important to learn more about e-mail marketing and e-mail deliverability.

What can you do to improve your company's e-mail marketing results? Here are 10 tips to boost e-mail deliverability.

1.Take the time to set up an opt-in mailing list for your e-mail marketing campaigns. Ask users to sign up to receive your e-mails, respond to a confirmation e-mail prior to receiving your e-mails and request that they add your company's e-mail address to their address book to ensure that they receive the messages that you send.

2.Consider running your e-mail marketing messages through a Spam filter to determine whether ISP and user content filters will reject your message.

3.Avoid using words like "free," the names of celebrities, words in all CAPS as well as many prescription drugs and inappropriate punctuation like multiple exclamation points. All of these are likely to trigger Spam filters and prevent users from even seeing the messages that you've worked to create.

4.Run your e-mail marketing campaigns through a hosted e-mail service. There are companies that are recognized as CAN-SPAM compliant; they automatically offer your recipients the chance to unsubscribe from your list, automate a variety of tasks related to e-mail marketing and even help to improve your e-mail marketing results by providing reports on the number of recipients who opened the e-mail and clicked on the links contained in it.

5.Work to build a database of quality addresses. When someone signs up for your list, ask them to submit their address twice this will help to weed out accidental misspellings. Avoid buying bulk lists of e-mail addresses as the mail that you send to them will be unsolicited.

6.Speak to the recipients of your e-mail marketing campaigns as individuals. Write your e-mail marketing messages as though they were being sent to a single person rather than a list; by avoiding too much sales speak and pressure to make the sale, you'll find that you get better results. Similarly, encourage the recipients to interact in some way through surveys and forms so that you can continue to send messages that appeal to your readers.

7.Keep the volume of your e-mail marketing campaign low. Though you may have a thousand addresses, sending 1000 e-mails at once is likely to make your messages look like Spam. Send your e-mails in smaller groups as opposed to all at once to avoid this problem.

8.If you receive a notice from an ISP that there are concerns about e-mail messages that you send, be sure to address them in a timely manner to avoid having your address land on a Blacklist or Greylist.

9.Ensure that the content within your e-mails is relevant to the products and services that your business provides; this will help you to keep subscribers and the marketing e-mails you send get more responses.

10.Send all of your e-mail marketing messages from the same address something that is especially important if your subscribers have Whitelisted your e-mail address.

No strategy will guarantee that your e-mails will reach all of your intended recipients; however, by following the above deliverability tips, you will be able to feel confident that the majority of your e-mail marketing messages will reach readers. When you improve the deliverability of your e-mails, you will be able to overcome many of the obstacles that prevent readers from viewing your e-mails and will improve your e-mail marketing results.

Web site design is not rocket science but you have to avoid certain fatal flaws or your site will never get off the ground. You must also sidestep these common design mistakes if you want your web site to reach its fullest potential.

In other words, there are certain vital elements of website design you must get right or it's game over before you even get started. These are the design elements which every successful site possesses, essential components every webmaster must consider when designing a profitable site.

The Right Keywords

Perhaps one of the most deadly design flaws has to do with keywords. Many novice webmasters fail to target the right keywords when designing their sites.

Keywords are the vital lifelines of any well designed web site. Basically, keywords are the exact words or phrases web users type into search engines to find what they're looking for on the internet.

You must get this right or it may spell disaster for your site. You must target the right keywords and optimize your site for them in all the search engines.

Most SEO experts suggest you have your main keyword phrase in the domain name of your site. This domain name should be directly related to the topic of your site. If you design a site on gaming laptops, then these keywords should be in your domain. All pages on your site should be related to these main keywords.

But first you must make sure your keywords are good searchable keywords, i.e. a large number of people must be searching for these keywords each day in the search engines in order to supply a steady stream of interested visitors or potential customers to your site.

How Do You Find Good Keywords?

Check and find good keywords related to your site and optimize your site for them. Don't pick the most competitive keywords because first page placement in the search engines will just be too hard to obtain especially for a new site.

Instead pick long tail keyword phrases which have fever searches but you will have a better chance of ranking high for these phrases. These long tail keyword phrases also have much better conversion rates than general (too broad) keywords.

Make sure your targeted keywords are in the title of your page and many experts suggest it should also be in the URL. Simple yet effective design elements which will increase your site's chances of success.

Exterior Links On Your Homepage

Another common design flaw is placing exterior, external links on your main homepage.

Most SEO experts suggest ALL your links on your homepage should be internal links pointing to your own content filled pages on your site. External links should be on a separate 'links page'.

If you want to use affiliate links, create a separate page for each affiliate product or program and link to this page on your site. Place your affiliate ID link and moneymaker on this content filled (reviews, how-to-use, testimonials...) internal page, rather than on your homepage.

To rank high, especially in Google, all your PageRank and visitors should be funneled into your site and not out to some external links. This is extremely important on your homepage - so make sure all or most of your links are internal links.

Simple Effective Navigation

You must design your site with simple effective navigation in mind. Visitors to your site must be able to access and move around your site with ease. Your site should also be fast loading even in this age of high-speed internet for surfers are the most impatient creatures on the planet!

As a common courtesy, if nothing else, make sure you place a link back to your homepage on each and every page of your site. Instead of just calling it 'home' or 'homepage'; include your domain name or major keywords in this link: 'gaming laptop home'.

Have links to all major areas or topics of your site on each page. Make it easy for your visitors to find what they're looking for on your site.

Include a sitemap which lists all the major pages/content on your site. Make sure a link to your sitemap page is listed on all your webpages, never leave your guests stranded with nowhere to go.

These are just some of the most important design flaws which can spell failure for your site. Avoid them at all costs. So make sure you keep these design elements in mind when you're designing your next site or correcting your present one.

Creating a successful site will be much easier if you overcome these simple, yet all too common, web site design flaws. Give your site a fighting chance at success by sidestepping these mistakes, after all, sites like rockets are meant to soar.

The recent boom in affiliate marketing has spawned such a mass of information, get rich quick schemes and conflicting advice that for the novice it can be a daunting experience that will put many off from setting out at all in this potentially lucrative business. However, it does not need to be this way. Here I present to you some of the most useful pointers to developing a successful affiliate income as four 'must do' tips:

1. Have a professional, user friendly website.
Given that affiliate links can be placed just about anywhere these days you could be excused for thinking that you do not actually need your own website. How wrong you would be. A professionally designed and built site that contains plenty of information about the products it promotes is essential. Information or content is generally what your visitors are initially at least searching for. If that information interests them it may well promote a sale. People need to be enticed into clicking on your adverts with original, interesting articles, reviews and information. Get this right and you have won half the battle. Navigating around the site should be easy,efficient and logical too. Make it easy for your visitors to find what they want.

2. Freebies!
Offer your visitors something for nothing. Giving away newsletters, e-zines and newsletters for nothing other than the potential customers email addresses in exchange is actually a very good deal for you. You can follow these up by offering them further information, links and special offers. This will keep them interested and could lead to sales now or in the future. Remember your fiercest competitors will be doing just this and it would be professional suicide not to match or exceed their efforts. Likewise keep an eye on your competitors regularly to check what they are doing. In other words try always to stay one step ahead.

3. Traffic Building.
Do everything within your power to drive traffic to your site. All marketers know this. You must look at all the possibilities for getting people to visit your site. Some of these methods can be expensive such as using advertising services and buying links. However there are other less costly methods that can be equally lucrative. Write articles for newsletters and E-zines such as this one and include a link to your website. The search engines love this type of free advertising and will reward you in their rankings. Of course you will also be exposing your knowledge and authority of your subject and this will lead of course to visitors who come to your site trusting your good judgment and reputation. Therefore ensure that the content they read is relevant, informative, up to date and well written.

4. Originality
What are your main competitors offering, or more accurately what are they not offering? Find out what the gaps are in the market and target them with your campaign.This is not to be confused with focusing upon something peripheral but it does mean looking for something that whilst popular has not yet been marketed aggressively. This will give your site a certain edge over other affiliates. Try to develop too, your chosen niche in an innovative way on your website too. Originality of graphics, including clever use of typography or unorthodox layout techniques, video links,imaginative use of colour and distinctive, memorable logos all can create the interest that can hold your visitors attention long enough to get that sale and just as importantly get them to return for more.

There are of course many other ways to get your affiliate business off to a healthy start but remember that good marketing is something which is in a constant state of flux. It will be important not to rest on your laurels, because this is a line of business in which your main competitors will be watching your every move for sure!
